Review: Fresh, Nourishing Salads for All Seasons by Kimberly Harris

I recently had an opportunity to check out Kimberly Harris' new cookbook Fresh - Nourishing Salads for All Seasons.

This cookbook was well thought out and obviously put together with care. With an excellent introduction that covers the ingredients the recipes use and other helpful suggestions and ideas in creating delicious salads in your home, you start out on the right foot. As you head into the cookbook, there are enticing photos to give you an idea of what your end results will be and to wet your appetite. I'm personally a huge photo fan in cookbooks. Except for a couple of essential cookbooks that cover a full spectrum of great recipes from very reputable people, for me a cookbook sells itself through it's pictures. A great picture will give me a far great desire to try a new dish, especially one with ingredients I'm not accustomed to using.

Now don't for a moment think this is a cookbook about lettuce. Salads can incorporate just about every ingredient in your kitchen. They simply require you to think outside the box a bit and this cookbook helps you get started on your way.
To start you'll find Classic Salad recipes like:
Nourishing Caesar Salad
All American Potato Salad
Greek Salad
And one that is on my "must try" list for the near future - Salmon Ceviche

Then you head into Mains & Sides where you find more tantalizing recipe including:
Mexican Squash and Black Bean Salad
Everyday Autumn & Cranapple Walnut Salad
Arugula, Grape & Chicken Salad

Grain, Potato and Legume Salads follow with some tempting meal ideas:
Lemony Chickpea Salad
Tuscan Clam & Bread Salad
Cucumber Pepper Lentil Salad
Thai Salad with Noodles

In case those salads aren't enough, Kimberly also has four more sections of salads to go through, along with some easy to make, homemade salad dressings.
Vegetable Side Salads
Lettuce Wraps
Fruit Salads
Stead, Chicken & Other Good Stuff
Salad Dressing

At the end of the cookbook you'll find a wonderful list of resources for ingredients you may not find at the traditional grocery store. Lists like these are always helpful to have whether you are just starting on the real food journey or have been down this road for a while, but desire to add you your resource list.

You can check out and purchase Fresh - Nourishing Salads for All Season on Kimberly's website The Nourishing Gourmet. It's available in both e-form and hardcover. If you already have the cookbook or decide to get it, let me know what you think!
