So for every gallon of milk you use to make cheese you get close to a gallon of whey from it. It's surprising. I was pretty shocked the first time I made cheese and saw how much whey was left over.

A very simple cheese recipe you can use is a homemade farmer cheese is this one: http://artistta.blogspot.com/2010/05/homemade-raw-milk-farmer-cheese.htmlArtisttahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16452923693687384103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4841717398700828.post-44752131233450623812011-02-27T19:37:09.573-06:002011-02-27T19:37:09.573-06:00So how do you get a whole gallon of whey??So how do you get a whole gallon of whey??wildflowershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04970101825868547701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4841717398700828.post-9804866711792204942010-12-21T16:00:36.337-06:002010-12-21T16:00:36.337-06:00Hi! I just made my first batch of mozerella (not a complete success!), but was going to save the Whey to make Ricotta tomorrow. Unfortunately, I read on the New England Chessemaking Site that you cannot use the whey from their mozerella recipe to make Ricotta! Now I have 2 gallons of Whey and just hate the thought of not using it for what I intended! Keep up the blog - I'd love to read more! Merry Christmas! I go in spells making cheese. I recently made around 8 lbs of hard cheese and had tons of whey left over so it was only natural to go ahead and make the ricotta.

My hard cheese is aging for about 2 months. Just in time for the fall then I'll make some more with our wonderful fresh milk for the winter.Artisttahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16452923693687384103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4841717398700828.post-71209230426139468492010-08-06T17:28:57.378-05:002010-08-06T17:28:57.378-05:00This is fascinating. I don't know that I will ever take on this project, but I love to know how ricotta is made and am amazed that you find time to make it, along with all of your other adventures.Lisahttp://www.tikkitavi.wordpress.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4841717398700828.post-57175832095658461742010-07-31T10:30:34.095-05:002010-07-31T10:30:34.095-05:00I think it's wonderful. Plus there is just something extra enjoyable about eating food you've made yourself, especially stuff like cheese because most people don't try and make it.
I still need to try and make some cottage cheese. Hopefully I'll get to that in the next couple of weeks! Keep enjoying your homemade stuff, especially that ice cream! :-)Artisttahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16452923693687384103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4841717398700828.post-84074498629956721692010-07-31T08:00:38.824-05:002010-07-31T08:00:38.824-05:00That looks wonderful! Can the same be said for homemade ricotta cheese?Carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07046665088659534199noreply@blogger.com
